Crisp Museum to Host Annual High School Art Exhibition

Southeast Missouri State University

Did you know some of the talented artists exhibited at the River Campus aren’t even in college yet?

Each year, the Crisp Museum solicits artwork from high school students in the region for the annual high school art exhibition. Call for artwork is currently underway with entries being accepted next February.

The art may be produced in any medium by students in grades 11 and 12 from Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

"Area high school art teachers are invited to submit fifteen of their students best works. Then we have a juror. A juror is usually from another area in the state and is usually associated with art education. The juror then selects first, second and third place in sculpture and ceramics, print-making, mixed media, photography, fibers, drawing and painting. But then the juror also selects the best of show and that best of show is awarded a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University as an art major. And for them to see their pieces there is very awe-inspiring for them. They're very excited and jubilant and their family is excited and it's a very joyful occasion." Carol Horst, Instructor in Department of Art at Southeast

Entries will be juried and the exhibition unveiled on February 11.  If you know of a high school artist interested in the exhibit, visit the museum online at semo.edu/museum or contact them at 573-651-2260.

As always, more information is available at RiverCampus.org and I hope to see you soon at the Box Office!
