Two-Minute Drill: Walk for Women

Southeast Missouri State University

The Walk for Women has become an annual spring tradition for Southeast Athletics, an important fundraising event that raises money for student-athlete scholarships while celebrating the importance of women’s athletics at Southeast. In the first nine years, the event has generated over 320 thousand dollars for athletic scholarships.

Since the inception of the Walk for Women, the funds raised have made it possible for Southeast to provide additional scholarships to 200 student-athletes that it otherwise would not have been able to provide, giving talented, hard-working student-athletes – both women and men – to pursue their dreams on and off the field.

Student-athletes like softball junior Riley Hayes. Riley received the Walk for Women Endowed Scholarship this school year, and she says her opportunity to attend Southeast, would not be possible without the financial support of an athletic scholarship. Besides being a team leader on the softball diamond – last year, Riley hit for a .289 average in 31 starts as the Redhawks catcher – Riley is also the Sports Editor for The Arrow student newspaper. Riley wants to one-day be a sports journalist on ESPN.

The Tenth Annual Walk for Women, presented by IHOP of Cape Girardeau, will be held the morning of Saturday, April 8 at Houck Field House. The family-friendly event features a 30-minute walk around the Southeast campus alongside the very student-athletes you are there to support, with inflatables and activities for your kids!
